One of the largest stateless ethnic groups in the world, possessing their own language, culture and history but divided by the walls of their fellow man – Such is the state of the Kurds. Routine and gross violations of any and all rights imaginable bolster the resolve for autonomy and protection in a country to call their own. But this growing nationalism scares the neighbours – and with good reason. The Kurdish ‘nation’ possess an immense geopolitical threat in Eurasia, its creation could result in territorial infringements and other international security concerns, but is it right to deny the people their sense of belonging as a community?
